The Edward Waters Prize (formerly the Institute Prize) is one of IPTA’s most prestigious and well-regarded awards with a long and distinguished history. It has always been awarded to a candidate who has shown excellence in the academic subjects leading to qualification as a patent attorney and who has shown that they have the potential to contribute substantially to the profession.
The Prize is awarded to a candidate who, in the view of the Institute Council, most clearly demonstrates the qualities required of the now Edward Waters Prize. The candidate must be nominated by two Fellows of the Institute and provide supporting material. This material should include details from the candidate and support by the nominating fellows as to why the candidate is a deserving recipient of the now Edward Waters Prize and is required to include examples. It is important to note that this material, together with the academic results, is significant in assessing the prize winner. The prize will not necessarily be awarded and the decision of the judges will be final and no correspondence regarding the decision will be entered into.
The recipient of the Prize is announced at the IPTA Annual Christmas Lunches and the successful candidate will receive a medallion and AU$5,000.
