On 31 May 2016 Dr John Landells will provide an update regarding the alignment between Australia and New Zealand in relation to patent practice and the patent attorney profession. John will provide a brief review on the proposed single application and examination process (SAP & SEP) being implemented by IP Australia and IPONZ, along with an outline of the patent attorney profession alignment occurring between Australia and New Zealand. John will also provide a more detailed review of the similarities and differences between New Zealand and Australian patent practice by comparing Australia’s post raising the bar requirements with that of New Zealand’s requirements, which are currently in transition between the “old” 1953 Patents Act and “new” 2013 Patents Act.
Dr John Landells is a Partner at FB Rice with 14 years’ experience in the patent attorney profession practicing across both Australia and New Zealand. John has a PhD (Chemistry), an LLB, and is a registered Patent Attorney and Legal Practitioner in both Australia and New Zealand. John is also an elected member of the IPTA Council and is involved in the education committee and New Zealand practice committee.
