Encouraging SMEs to engage with the patent system

17/05/22

In 2021 the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources released an independent review that considered issues in relation to the accessibility of the patent system for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and the barriers they face to protect innovations in Australia and overseas. IPTA was one of the stakeholders invited to take part in the Report’s public consultation process and, as part of that process, IPTA reaffirmed its commitment to take a proactive role in encouraging SMEs to positively engage with the patent system and IP professionals.

At the 2022 conference, IPTA “premiered” a video highlighting key messages for SMEs in relation to engaging with the patent system for successfully protecting their innovations.

IPTA extends its thanks to the video’s presenters, Rebecca McCrackan, Ben Pitt and Mark Diamond, for their insights on this very important issue. IPTA also wishes to thank its PR Committee co-convenors, Grant Shoebridge and Claire Gregg for their oversight of the video production, as well as the following IPTA councillors for their valued contribution: Andrew Jones, Anna Johnson, Brendan Cheong, Will Hird and Michael Caine.
